Two women live over two hundred years apart. Strangely their lives seem to mirror each other.

Beth Harwood, passionate about history, is invited by Lord Vorlane to research his family archive at Vorlane Hall in Kildare, where against her better judgment she is attracted to his eldest son, Nick.

In 1795, Martha Emilie Vorlane lived with her husband on his sugar plantation in the British Virgin Islands. In her journal she described her love affair with an army captain and the pain and loss she suffered. Reading Martha Emilie’s journal captures Beth’s imagination and leads her into a situation which changes her life dramatically.
